Native Women, Fracking and Sexual Violence.
- The kidnapping, selling and raping of Native women and girls has increased with fracking and ‘man camps’ where workers live near drill sights. The tribe does not have criminal jurisdiction over non-Natives who rape on the reservation, which can lead to workers abusing and exploiting our girls & women without fear of arrest or criminal prosecution.
- Dickinson, North Dakota saw a 300% increase in sex crimes and Bradford County, Pennsylvania also had an increase in rapes after fracking arrived. Some women now carry tasers to protect themselves and it is no longer safe for them to be alone.
- Studies find that 80% of rapes against Indian women are by non-native men.
